New bottle filling line commissioned at our Karaoğlanoğlu plant

Girne Su has commissioned a new 19-litre bottle filling line at its plant in Karaoğlanoğlu. By combining washing, filling and capping in a single closed line, the investment aims both to raise hygiene standards and to shorten delivery times during the busy summer months.

What does the new line change?

Previously, bottles were washed, filled and capped at separate stations. With the new line, the whole process is completed in one flow, untouched by hand. Key features of the line:

  • Multi-stage washing: Every returned bottle goes through pre-rinsing, detergent washing, disinfection and a final rinse.
  • Automatic inspection: Damaged, cracked or deformed bottles are rejected at the start of the line.
  • Filling in an enclosed area: Filling and capping take place in an enclosed cabin protected by filtered air.
  • Tamper-evident caps: Every bottle is sealed with a tamper-evident cap that shows if it has been opened.
  • Batch tracking: Each bottle's label carries the filling date and batch information, so every batch can be traced back.

What does it mean for our customers?

  1. Faster delivery: We will be able to respond more flexibly to higher demand in summer.
  2. More consistent quality: A standardised process ensures the same hygiene conditions for every batch.
  3. Greater transparency: Batch tracking strengthens the traceability of lab reports alongside quality control records.

We continue to publish our latest laboratory results on our water quality page.

Quality control process

The quality control steps were also reviewed alongside the new line:

| Stage | Check | |---|---| | Source | Periodic sampling and laboratory analysis | | Treatment | Filtration and UV disinfection checks | | Line | Monitoring of washing temperature and disinfectant concentration | | Product | Batch sampling and visual inspection | | Warehouse | Cool, shaded, odour-free storage |

Environmental impact

The new line also helps the refillable bottle system run more efficiently. Processing returned bottles faster means the same bottle comes back into circulation sooner. Bottles that reach the end of their service life are separated and sent for recycling.

Why a new line?

Water consumption in North Cyprus rises sharply in summer, and expectations for regular delivery to homes and offices grow every year. Under the old set-up, shifts had to be extended during busy periods. With the new line, production planning becomes more predictable, waiting times between washing and filling are shorter, and staff can focus on inspection and quality tasks rather than repetitive manual handling.

Plant visits

Following requests from schools, universities and corporate customers, we aim to organise planned visits to our plant, where visitors can see the journey of water from source to bottle, our quality control steps and the new filling line. Please contact us through our usual channels to request a visit.

Thanks to our team

Our production, quality control and maintenance teams worked with great dedication to install and commission the line. The installation was planned so as not to disrupt existing production, and there was no interruption to deliveries.
