What is the deposit?
19-litre polycarbonate (PC) bottles are returnable packaging that is washed, sterilised and reused many times. To keep bottles in circulation and make sure they come back, a deposit is charged on first purchase. The deposit is a security for the packaging that is refunded when the conditions are met; it is not part of the price of the water.
Deposit amount
The current deposit amount is shown separately on the product page and in the order summary. As of the date this text was updated, the deposit is 400 TL per 19 L bottle. Prices and the deposit amount may change; the applicable amount is the one in effect when your order is confirmed.
When do you pay a deposit?
- First purchase: If you do not have a Girne Su bottle, you pay a one-off deposit for each full bottle you buy.
- When you hand over an empty bottle: For every full bottle for which you give our delivery staff a suitable empty bottle at delivery, no deposit is charged; you only pay for the water.
- Increasing quantity: If you move from using 2 bottles to 3, you only pay a deposit for the additional bottle.
Entering the number of empty bottles you will hand over in the "empty bottle return" field of the order form ensures the deposit is calculated correctly.
Conditions for accepting empty bottles
For hygiene and safety reasons, empty bottles are accepted under the following conditions:
- It must be a Girne Su bottle or a compatible 19 L PC bottle accepted by Girne Su.
- It must not be broken, cracked or punctured, and the neck and mouth must not be deformed.
- It must not have been used to store anything other than water (oil, detergent, fuel, chemicals, etc.).
- It must not be excessively dirty, mouldy, contain foreign objects or smell.
- It must not be discoloured or deformed from long exposure to direct sunlight.
Bottles that do not meet these conditions are not accepted and a deposit is charged for the new bottle. Accepted bottles go through washing, disinfection and visual inspection at our bottling plant; those that fail inspection are sent for recycling.
Deposit refund
If you decide to stop using Girne Su, you can return the empty bottles for which you paid a deposit, provided they meet the acceptance conditions. For a deposit refund:
- You can hand the empty bottles to our delivery staff at the next delivery, or bring them to our head office or an authorised dealer.
- Sharing a receipt, invoice or order number showing the deposit was paid speeds up the process.
- The refund is based on the deposit amount paid and is made in a way suited to your payment method (cash or bank transfer).
Deposit on subscriptions
With a scheduled delivery subscription, the deposit is charged only on the first delivery, for the number of bottles in your subscription. On later deliveries your empty bottles are collected and you only pay for the water. When you end the subscription, you can return the empty bottles and get your deposit back.
Corporate customers
For contracted corporate customers, the deposit can be tracked on the corporate account based on the number of bottles set out in the contract. Details are agreed during the quotation.
